Oil-Free French Fries!

We used to love deep-fried French fries, frites, chips, or whatever you call oil fried potatoes. At home, we used to make oven-baked “fries” with olive oil, back in the day when we still thought this was a healthier version.

Now, we cut up the potato, sprinkle on a seasoning like chile powder, (Trader Joe’s has a chile lime seasoning that is great) and bake (on a foil or parchment, or silicone pad–lined baking sheet) in a hot 450 degree oven until browned, dip in some hot sauce, (we love Frank’s and also Whole Food’s 365 Jalapeño sauce–ketchup is usually full of sugar) and truly love potatoes this way.  Here’s a tip–try sprinkling seasoning on foil and rolling the raw potatoes in it with the seasoned side down. Using this method, you don’t need to turn the potatoes during cooking and they pop off the foil easily. We also serve them with guacamole, vegan cheese sauce (recipe coming), salsa, horseradish sauce, and more. The sauces have more than enough flavor and you don’t need to salt the potatoes when you bake them. You can get creative and use these fries as a base for “poutine” or a plant-based “horseshoe.”  These “fries” are filling, delicious, healthy and low calorie. A true guilt-free pleasure for a snack or a meal!
